When I discovered flower farming, a whole new world opened up to me. I’ve always loved growing vegetables, but it was flowers—especially dahlias—that truly captured my heart.

In 2010, I graduated from film school with a degree in cinematography and moved to Atlanta, GA, with my boyfriend (now husband), Alex. For the next 10 years, we built careers together in the music and film industry around Atlanta. Then 2020 brought our industry to a complete stop.

Encouraged by family and friends, I started a small business designing vegetable gardens and created a blog covering everything from gardening and crafts to cooking. I loved sharing what I knew, teaching people how to garden, and helping others discover the joy of growing their own food. When the film industry came back, however, I returned to my career and let my little gardening side hustle take a back seat.

Two years later, our beautiful son, Leon, was born—and I found myself returning to the garden once again. This time, flowers were calling me.

I began growing flowers for myself and eventually started selling them to local florists, family, and friends. What started as a small patch of flowers quickly grew into something much bigger. In 2023, I joined the Georgia Dahlia Society and had the opportunity to show my flowers in their first flower show since the pandemic. To my surprise and delight, I won two ribbons for my dahlias. I had always thought my flowers were beautiful, but those awards gave me a renewed sense of confidence and made all those long hours in the garden feel even more worthwhile.

Today, A La Cait Florals has grown beyond simply growing flowers. Along with seasonal, locally grown blooms, I create pressed flower artwork and bouquet preservation pieces, including resin keepsakes that turn meaningful flowers into something you can treasure for years to come. I also love sharing the creative side of flowers through hands-on workshops, teaching everything from flower pressing and floral crafts to gardening and growing.

My passion for flowers has also led me deeper into growing and hybridizing dahlias. I’ve expanded my dahlia patch and dedicated a large portion of my garden to experimenting with new varieties and creating something uniquely my own. You could say dahlias are my favorite flower!

A La Cait Florals is a reflection of all the things I love: growing, creating, teaching, and finding beauty in the little things. Whether I’m harvesting flowers from the garden, preserving someone’s wedding bouquet, creating a pressed flower piece, or helping someone discover their own green thumb, I love knowing that something I grew or created can bring joy to someone else.

It’s hard work—sometimes even longer days than my years in the film industry—but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. After all, there’s something pretty special about growing a flower from a tiny seed and watching it become something that makes someone smile.
